When You Don't Feel the Power: Social Inequality in the Therapy Room
Rose Cameron
Event Details
Rose Cameron hosted an online event for the The Psychologists Protection Society Trust on the evening of 17th November 2025.
Session Outline
This presentation explores how to reduce the risk of ruptures or complaints arising when a client, supervisee, or trainee experiences you as holding more power—whether through race, gender, class, or other factors. Those with social power and privilege are often unaware of it, and consequently unaware of how life is for those without. Complaints frequently develop when clients (or supervisees and trainees) do not feel heard. This presentation will introduce resources to help you better understand the experiences of those living outside the charmed circle of privilege. Short awareness-building exercises will be included throughout, along with time for questions and discussion.
