Eoin Stephens
Event Details:
On Friday 17th October 2014 The Psychologists Protection Society Trust invited Mr Eoin Stephens to speak on the topic “Falling Between Two Stools – Dual Diagnosis: The need for multidisciplinary awareness and cooperation”. The session was part of the Psychologists Protection Society’s 2014 Annual General Meeting held in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
Session Outline:
“Dual Diagnosis” is the term used when a person suffers from both an addiction problem and another mental health issue such as depression or an anxiety disorder. The causal pathways may run in either direction (or both). A person may self-medicate with alcohol or other drugs/behaviours in order to cope with a mental health problem. They may then become addicted and the addiction becomes the most visible problem. Equally, an ongoing addiction may lead to the development of other serious emotional/psychiatric problems.

He has been working as a practitioner and educator in the field of counselling and psychotherapy for more than 20 years, and has made numerous contributions to the media, especially in the areas of addictive behaviours and anxiety problems.
